Carlsberg South Western League

Callington Town 1

Saltash Utd 2

THIS derby match was settled in eight second half minutes in favour of third placed Saltash.

Callington enjoyed the majority of the play for the first half and but for great goalkeeping and stout defending by Saltash, could have been two or three ahead at half-time.

Town had the chance to break the deadlock two minutes after the break when Pete Southcott?s shot was well saved by Saltash keeper Simon Zinn.

With 25 minutes remaining, a great move involving Mark Keith and Chris Gerry ended with the ball at the feet of Ryan Daley on the right and he fired home from the edge of the box to give Callington the lead.

But their joy was shortlived as two defensive errors gifted Saltash two goals, and with them the game.

Mike Roberts? looping header on 70 minutes was enough to beat Andy Brenton after a good move on the left, and a defensive slip two minutes later saw Paul Baker pounce to score and give United a flattering win.

Matt Shorter almost grabbed an equaliser from a James Crawford cross but his header cleared the bar and despite laying siege to the visitors? goal, Callington could not break through.

Callington Town face their toughest match of the season on Saturday when they entertain high flying St Blazey in the Cornwall Senior Cup at Ginsters Marshfield Parc, kick-off 2.30pm.
