MEMBERS of the Year 6 Art Club at Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School have spent the term designing and painting five otters as part of Dartmoor National Park’s Schools’ Otter Project.

The children worked in pairs to come up with designs that could be painted on the otter sculptures. After a couple of coats of primer, the fun started when the children started using acrylic paints in a selection of bold colours. They finished with a coat of varnish to help protect the otters. The children also had to write a design statement about their otter.

The otters are on display at Princetown Visitor Centre throughout the summer holiday.

The children said they were very sad to say ‘goodbye’ to their otters but were very proud of their artwork.
