STUDENTS from Duchy College, Stoke Climsland have raised almost £2,000 for charity, after organising a fundraising party.
The Level 3 business students raised the cash for the Cornwall Air Ambulance and CLIC Sargent through an event at Trethorne Leisure Farm, which saw more than 300 people attend.
Business student Catherine Harrison said: ’It has been a very good experience and has brought the group closer together. It was great to see everyone having such a good time at a party we organised. We’ve had lots of positive feedback and we were all amazed at the amount we raised.’
As part of the course, the group had to organise an event to raise money for charity, with planning for the party starting back in September and regular weekly meetings to discuss progress.
The event module on the business course encourages the teams to work together, forming relationships and resolving problems that arise.
Business lecturer at Duchy College Julie Tucker said: ’The Duchy Party 2016 was a massive success not only in terms of raising awareness and money for their chosen charities but also in terms of the valuable experience the students have had planning, running and evaluating the event.
’All the students did an amazing job and displayed a range of skills, including leadership, teamwork and taking responsibility for the event.’
