A GROUP of Year 8 students from Tavistock College were invited to Tavistock Town Hall recently to meet the Mayor of Tavistock Cllr Mandy Ewings.

During their time at the meeting, the students learned a lot about the history of Tavistock and the town hall building. They were taken to the mayor’s parlour and were invited to sign the registration log.

Year 8 pupil Issey Hillman said: ‘My peers and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit because it improved our knowledge and understanding of the town we live in.

‘Not only that, the trip also gave us an insight into how democracy really works by teaching us about the way councillors are voted in and how they are always trying to make Tavistock’s future better. Overall, I think the trip was extremely useful, fun and was a really interesting experience.’
