Tamar League A Division Ordulph v Holsworthy The ?Tamar Inter League? continues for Ordulph, in what was always going to be a mismatch with Ordulph second in the A Division and Holsworthy near the bottom of the B Division. Ordulph entered the match with a strong team and a sunny disposition to reflect the weather. Yet again Ordulph lost the toss. Put in to bat the visitors, via the skills of Finnigan and Wellard and with the aid of some loose bowling from Holsworthy, got off to a whirlwind start - the first 50 runs coming off 6 overs. Following a clear cut stumping of Finnigan for 19 the Ordulph innings went into overdrive with Lawrence Evans (98no), ably supported by Wellard (37), and then with yet another demonstration of destructive batting from Whitfield (92). Whitfield is fast becoming a batsman that the league?s bowlers dread bowling against. The poor Holsworthy fielders spent more time retrieving the ball from over the boundary than they did on the field. Lawrence Evans? 98 not out was an impressive enough knock on its own but even more so considering it was the first time he had picked up a bat this season. Jude Rotten contributed a late cameo innings (20no) with Ordulph finishing on what may well be a near league record of 317 for 5. To their credit the young Holsworthy team fielded with great enthusiasm and commendably stuck to their task. The Holsworthy innings was inevitably a tame affair mustering 92 all out, with R Chapman top scoring 17. Wily campaigner Johnny Lethbridge led the bowling for the Ordulph with 4-14. There was a couple of nice takes from keeper Wood, who is fast elevating himself to be one of the better keepers in the league. So yet another comprehensive win for The Ordulph with the top of the league now looking tight with the other front-runners Buckland and Lewdown both faltering at the weekend. l Next week?s big match between second place Ordulph and first place Buckland is shaping up to be quite an important affair in determining the final league positions.
