IN the penultimate match of the season, Oke Squash needed to win to protect themselves from the dreaded drop to Division 3. But on this night, after an early wobble, Oke showed they have the makings of a top Division 2 side next season. Rob Barkwell (No5) kicked off proceedings, but couldn?t quite translate his ambition into action on the court, and was humbled by a spritely opponent 9-0, 9-0, 9-2. From there on, Oke showed what they can offer ? with some great performances. Steve Yeo (No4) battled out the win of the night, to defeat a game opponent in 5 sets ? winning the last with aplomb 9-0. Donald Rooke (No3) powered back to form with a dominant showing, that saw him win comfortably with some cracking shots ? 3.1. Arnie Searle (No2) was equally impressive and kept his long run of wins going with a 3-0 drubbing of his slower opponent, who couldn?t keep up with an in form Arnie. Jon Sampson (No1) polished off the night, with a passionate performance that saw him struggle to match his opponent?s skills early on, but battle back from being behind in each game, and end up winning 3-0. A great win for Oke Squash ? and great signs that this team will be hard to beat next season.
