POPULAR speaker Dr Tom Greeves will talk about the pioneer photographers of Dartmoor at the next meeting of Okehampton and District Local History Society.

The talk will include slides of photographs taken with very early camera in the mid-19th century. Dr Greeves is the chairman of the Dartmoor Society, and former archaeologist for Dartmoor National Park. He has given two talks to the group before, on Dartmoor's tin mining, and the ancient symbols of the three hares.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday, December 11 at the Ockment Centre at 7.30pm. Meetings of the history society are held on the second Wednesday of each month, though there will be no January meeting as members have their annual lunch.

New members are always welcome, and can call secretary Jane Lehni on 01837 840087.
