VISITORS to Tavistock's Dickensian Evening have a week less to wait for the popular pre-Christmas event, as it has been brought forward by one week this year.

The evening which sees hundreds flocking to the town to enjoy the Christmas spirit and snap up some festive presents will be held on Friday, December 7.

Philip Hartnoll, chamber chairman, said: 'We wanted to take the opportunity to try a slightly different date, in the hope that people who would be unable to manage the usual date wll be able to come and enjoy this event.'

Mr Hartnoll said arrangements are well under way for Dickensian Evening and the chamber hopes this year's event will be as successful as in former years.

Guy Talbot, chamber secretary, said it was hoped the earlier date could particularly benefit school choirs who perform at Dickensian Evening, as the calendar becomes very busy later in the month.
