TWO West Devon authors have high hopes for their debut electronic books which could unfold a new chapter in their literary careers.

Jasen Quick and Tina K Burton are among many new authors whose works can be downloaded as an e-book.

Tina, aged 48 and who lives in Tavistock, is a freelance writer who has sold to various publications in the UK and overseas — last month she had a full page story of a romance with a twist for Valentine's Day in The Weekly News.

She is delighted with her novel 'Chapters of Life.'

Tina told the Times: 'It's a contemporary women's fiction novel set in a fictional Cotswold market town, and centres around a bookshop called Merrilies, and the lives of the two women who run it and the five members of the reading group.

'It's an emotional dramatic story of their lives and relationships, with some bad times, some sad times but also some uplifting feel good moments.

The e-book is now available on Amazon Kindle and Smashwords.

She added: 'I decided to publish on Kindle because I feel e-books are the way to go. The author is more in control than with a traditional publisher.

'Chapters of Life' is a story about people, their lives and relationships, but that doesn't mean it's all pleasant.

'There's plenty of drama and emotion and some dark moments too.

'If you decide to buy it, I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it, and I'm currently writing a sequel, so if you'd like to see more, look out for it in the future.

'Weird but different' is how Jasen Quick describes his first published work 'The Significant Deaths of Cage and Constance' — with the author bravely tackling the subject of depression, something he suffered himself in 2008.

Jasen, aged 40 and who lives at Chillaton, has a diverse background including electrician, a features writer for an independent internet magazine and teaching at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown.

'I am working on a novel which is presently called "The Absolute End of My Life and Yours." When I wrote "The Significant Deaths of Cage and Constance." I wanted to show a man with the kind of depression that I suffer from, but I wanted him to be different from me so people didn't think I was writing about myself. When I had finished the story I still had some depression-related ideas I had not used, so I decided to write another story about depression, to address those ideas.

'The Absolute End of My Life and Yours has a much more sombre theme, so I didn't really want to write it straight after "The Significant Deaths of Cage and Constance" and be labelled as a writer who only writes about depression.

'The trouble is, I couldn't stop myself. As with "The Significant Deaths of Cage and Constance" the plot is not about depression — depression is just one aspect of the main character's life.

'This story will evolve in a similar way to my first book taking the main character on a life-changing journey.'

His 'Significant Deaths ...' e-book is available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo and Omnilit.
