A PIECE of Tavistock?s official mayoral regalia which had gone walk about, has now been discovered safe and in perfect condition. The mayor?s female consort?s chain, as the Times reported last week, was lost at some stage when town council staff relocated to Duke Street during the refurbishment of their Drake Road building. Despite an extensive search, no-one could find the chain and the council?s insurers had refused to pay for a new one. But town mayor Cllr Jenny Metcalf had good news for members at last week?s meeting of the council. Cllr Metcalf said: ?The missing chain has been found, so that?s marvellous. We have to thank Duane Carruthers of the town hall for finding it, but the whole thing has turned up now, in pristine condition and it?s now in the safe.? Dave Evans, the town hall manager, said his deputy Duane had found the chain in the loft of the town hall. ?Basically it had been packed away, probably in a rush, when the council offices were refurbished, but at least it?s been found now,? said Mr Evans. Town clerk Roger Howard said: ?We knew the moment we admitted it was gone, it would turn up.?
