DEVON?S Nine Days of Art was launched in Tavistock last week with the sound of African drums. Musicians Chanda Nyerezani and Beenie Sidibeh are pictured right with local artists Philippa Smith, Martyn Brown and Ron Andrew in Bedford Square. Youngsters enjoyed artwork in the square as part of the local launch. Weaving, dyeing and spinning are featured at an open event at Peter Tavy this week as part of Nine Days of Art. Textile designers Jill Morris and Jane Deane are holding an open studio at Jill?s home ? Midhurst Cottage in the centre of Peter Tavy. Also on show are sketchbooks and samples showing their design work. Jill works from a purpose-built studio in the garden, built and designed by husband Jerry, and Jane has set up her work in their garden office for the week. Refreshments are on offer in the garden, or under cover if wet. The studios will be open until Sunday, September 18 from 10am to 4pm daily. Nine Days of Art draws on the natural wealth of artistic and creative talent inspired by the county. Events take place at a variety of venues throughout West Devon ? each region celebrates the event on different dates. The north and east of Devon launch their Nine Days of Art this Saturday.
