THE Okehampton and District Community Transport Group is still on the hunt for new drivers after their latest recruitment drive.
The group has recently managed to recruit John Bartlett from Hatherleigh, Mary Gambrill from Highampton, Terry Newberry from Folly Gate and Leslie Stickland from Belstone as drivers to assist with the increasing demand for transport.
However, the group also said goodbye to four drivers over Christmas, including Pat Parrish who had driven for the group since 1992 and Catherine Martineau who started volunteering in 1994. Tony Hill from Bratton Clovelly and Chris Burke from Belstone also stood down from the group.
The organisation is still on the lookout for drivers who live in Okehampton, though they always welcome drivers from the wider area.
Volunteer drivers provide transport to hospital and medical appointments, and social visits.
The group pays drivers 45p per mile and also indemnify your no claims bonus and policy excess.
Volunteers can spare as much time as they like, from a couple of hours a month upward.
Drivers with relevant experience can also volunteer to drive the wheelchair accessible vehicle on trips.
