A MAN died and his female partner suffered serious injuries after a traffic collision near Newbridge, Callington on Saturday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident on the A390 which involved a blue Mazda MX5 sports car and a silver Ford X Max at around 12.40pm.

The 68-year-old driver of the Mazda, named as Christopher Upton-Taylor from Torpoint, suffered severe facial and chest injuries and later died at Derriford Hospital. His partner, 59, also from Torpoint, suffered multiple fractures and her condition is described as 'stable but poorly'. Both were cut free from the vehicle by firefighters from Callington and flown to hospital by air ambulance.

The occupants of the Ford were believed to be a family from New Zealand and on holiday in the UK. The two adults and four children suffered shock and minor seatbelt injuries only.

The Mazda was believed to have been travelling from Callington towards Liskeard. Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen either vehicle at or shortly before the collision occurred to contact them on 08452 777444 quoting log 481 30/07/11.
