SUPPORTERS of Tavistock Community Football Club are certainly on the ball when it comes to raising funds to help provide sporting facilities for the town.
Hundreds of people will be taking part in a sponsored dribble — ball dribbling, that is — on Saturday, July 3.
It promises to be quite a sight as different age groups do their bit to keep the continuous dribbling up for 12 hours.
Adrian Towl, one of the organisers, said the 'goal' was to dribble the length of a trip from Tavistock to Wembley Stadium — the national home of English football — some 342,800 metres.
Each age group will dribble a 25 metre distance on Bedford Square, taking it turns in a relay formation up and down the course.
Adrian said: 'We are putting on an event to help raise funds for Tavistock Community Football Club. Part of the agreement for the new complex to get the go ahead was that, we as a community club, had to raise part of the costs ourselves.
'Although the relevant sporting organisations and grants have met a huge proportion of this cost we still need to fund raise to keep our side of the deal.'
Each age group — Tavistock AFC Men's, Tavistock Ladies, Tavistock Specials, Tavistock Thistles and Town — will take it in turn, each having an hour to complete as many runs as possible.
TCFC are looking to raise a substantial amount of money and are urging people in the town to back the event, both by sponsorship and cheering those taking part on the day. If you would like to sponsor the event or receive a sponsorship form please email [email protected]">[email protected]
