A TAVISTOCK woman?s mother and husband helped deliver her baby ? and narrowly avoided a tragedy. Vicky Stoate, 28, who now lives in London, had twice visited hospital, believing her baby was due. But on each occasion she was told she was not dilated enough and sent back home. Vicky went into labour last Friday evening, just hours after returning from hospital. Her husband Matt and mother Glenda Kaminski helped to deliver the baby ? with assistance from the ambulance phone service, which guided them every step of the way. The baby boy was born at 5.40pm. But when Matt and Glenda saw the newborn child they noticed he was blue, as the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. They feared the worst, but fortunately, paramedics arrived and managed to revive the baby. Mrs Kaminski, said: ?It was horrendous ? a totally traumatic experience. The midwife said she hadn?t sufficiently dilated and was sent home although she was having regular contractions. ?But baby Oliver looks amazingly well and none the worse for his dramatic entrance into the world. ?The ambulance crew said Matt and I were heroes for our quick thinking and the baby should be called Lucky.? Mother and baby are doing well and recovering from the ordeal. The baby boy is called Oliver James Stoate and is a healthy brother for two and a half year old Alice. It is the second grandchild for Glenda Kaminski and her husband, Tony.
