ON Saturday the acclaimed Ten Tors Orchestra and a specially created Buckland Abbey festival chorus will be performing a new setting of Henry Newbolt's poem Drakes Drum by local composer Andrew Wilson.

The concert is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the opening of Buckland Abbey. The concert will take place in the atmospheric surroundings of the 14th century tithe barn.

Michael Coxson, property manager at Buckland Abbey said: 'This will be a wonderful night of music, Simon Ible has recruited a talented choir for this performance and Julianne Young (mezzo-soprano), who is the soloist for the evening is a rising star of opera.

A post-graduate opera student at the Royal College of Music, Julianne has won many prizes. She comes to Buckland Abbey before giving a recital at Wigmore Hall in July.

The concert programme also includes Mozart's Divertimento, Warlock's Capriolo suite and music by Scarlatti and German. Tickets are selling quickly so be sure to book in advance for this concert.'

The concert begins at 7.30pm. Pre-concert meals are available at the restaurant. To book tickets or for further information telephone Buckland Abbey on 01822 853607.
