A SPECIAL afternoon tea to raise funds for Barnardo’s was held recently to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the national children’s charity.

The free tea party was held at the Drake Manor Inn in Buckland Monachorum and was organised by a West Devon woman who was cared for by the charity in her childhood years.

Maureen ‘Mo’ Harris, who spent part of her childhood under the care of Barnardo’s along with her siblings, is now a member of the National Council of Barnado’s Old Boys and Girls and volunteers for the charity.

Mo said: ‘The inn was packed to the rafters and everyone came and helped themselves to sandwiches and cakes. Everyone that came said they had a wonderful time and we raised just over £200 —’It was a fabulous day.’
