Cambridge League U18s Tavistock AFC 3 Saltash Utd 1 THE first half saw both teams hardly able to put a pass together and finishing was poor. Doyle and Phillips put in a lot of running but the final ball was not forthcoming. Hammond and Court battled to feed the ball to the strikers but in a blustery wind accuracy was difficult. Tavistock?s defence was good with Francis covering everything. Busuttil used his speed to keep the ball out. Wearing was superb in goal and pulled off some fine saves. A corner awarded to Saltash floated in and Court?s headed clearance saw it fly into the roof of the net for an own goal. Tavistock?s Phillips and Jones battled hard to keep possession. Phillips finally broke through and crossed in to Doyle to get an equaliser. The second half saw better football and players started linking up. Court came wide and Hammond slotted into the back four which Francis commanded well. Johns at left back excelled himself with good challenges. Saltash came back at Tavistock and the constant running and challenges of Busuttil and Francis kept the ball out. After two disallowed goals for offside Tavistock broke through and Court was on hand to pick up a loose ball to slam into the back of the net. In the last few minutes Doyle ran at the defence and in so doing took two defenders with him. An unselfish side pass saw Phillips put the ball into the net to give Tavistock a well deserved win.
