Devon and Exeter senior three
Uplowman 4
South Zeal United 1
SOUTH Zeal started this game against top of the table Uplowman very lethargically, giving the ball away far too often and generally not up to the pace of their opponents.
Uplowman took the lead after 15 minutes when a shot that was going straight to Reg Wonnacott in the Zeal goal was deflected by Dan Wakeham past the stranded Zeal keeper.
Uplowman's second goal was also a bit fortunate as a scramble in the Zeal penalty area saw the ball diverted into the path of one of their strikers, who finished easily from six yards.
Towards the end of the first half Zeal started to get more into the game and Darren Gilbert, Redd Cann and Garry Smith all went close until the home side broke and a good cross was headed home to make the score 3-0 at half time.
Zeal looked a changed team in the second half as Harley Cann and Darren Gilbert continually threatened and their pressure was rewarded when Redd Cann hammered home a pass from a free kick 20 yards out.
Zeal now threatened to get the second but could not find the finish that would have made an interesting final 15 minutes and instead Uplowman made the points safe 10 minutes from time with a well directed lob from just outside the penalty area.
Although poor in the first half Zeal never stopped trying and with some luck could have got a point.
*l This week South Zeal Utd are at home to Seaton Town, kick-off 2.15pm.
