Devon & Exeter League Premier Division Okehampton Argyle 5 Exeter Civil Service 0 ALTHOUGH this victory gave Argyle a big boost in their fight against relegation, injuries to three players, Stuart Cann, Danny Maddax and Kevin Gill, may keep them out of the team for the next few weeks during the vital run in to the end of the season. Steve Kinsey and Phil Evans both tested the keeper with early shots, but the weakened Civil defence put up some stubborn resistance to keep the scores level. It took a fine solo run from Adam Mortimer to break the deadlock after 15 minutes. He jinked his way to the goal line, before pulling the ball back for Steve Kinsey to score with a low shot from seven yards. Civil had their moments, an early corner kick bounced off the top of the crossbar and out for a goal kick. But generally Argyle held the ascendancy and only some indifferent finishing kept the score at 1-0. Five minutes before half time Argyle deservedly increased their lead. A shot from Paul Yip was blocked by a defender, but kindly ran out to Neil Agnew on the edge of the penalty box, whose first time shot found the corner of the net. An underhit back pass five minutes into the second half saw Argyle go three goals clear, Phil Evans beating the keeper to the ball before shooting into the empty net. A couple of great saves from Chris Dearing in Argyle?s goal reminded the home side the game was not yet over. But a double strike from substitute Mark Burdus in the 70th and 80th minutes put the result beyond doubt and secured the vital three points.
