TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club suffered a couple of misfortunes during the past week. The ladies? section had a disappointing Thursday afternoon as their opponents in the Top Club competition failed to turn up for the game. On Saturday a coachload of players and supporters travelled to Paignton only to find the morning rain had made the green unplayable. The club?s first match of the week was Wednesday?s mixed triples home game against Chagford Bowling Club, resulting in an 86-65 win for Tavistock, thanks to them winning three of the four scheduled rinks. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of David Perry and George Blackburn notched up a 27-13 victory after winning seven of the nine ends in the second half of the match. Skip Norman Paramor with Marlene Paramor and Ray Meneer lost 14-18 after scoring on only six of the ends played. Skip Betty Browse with Hazel Lovell and Frank Welch won 23-9 when their opponents managed to score on only six of the 18 ends. Skip Ron Cooper with Walter Meek and Anne Brown were 6-15 down at the 11th end, then in a reversal of fortunes won seven ends on the trot to finish the match 22-15 winners. Thursday saw the men?s team playing Tamar at home in a County Trophy fixture. Each team won two rinks with Tamar taking the spoils 84-62. Tavistock skip Malcolm Bloomer with David Perry, Mike Felles and Harvey Leach lost 11-26 after scoring on eight of the 21 ends. Skip Clive Jago with Ernie Piper, Brian Davis and Der Saunders fought a close contest to emerge finally 17-14 victors. Skip Mike Allen and Vic Stacey, Norman Paramor and Derek Bradford were in the lead throughout the match, finishing 20-14 winners. Skip Roy Northam with John Smith, Bill Ashe and Barry Chappell went down 14-30 thanks to some consistent high quality scoring by their opposition.
