Devon seconds B

Yelverton seconds v Brixham seconds

Yelverton seconds defeated Brixham seconds at a damp and misty Langton Park on Saturday.

The start of the game was delayed due to the weather and when the game finally got under way at 3pm the overs had been reduced to 36 per side.

Yelverton skipper Chris Pearson won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Brixham to bat first.  Opening bowler Dom Rushton struck with his fifth ball as Brixham opener Hopper chipped a catch to Pat Hobbs at square leg.

Veteran Tony Carter struck at the other end bowling Franklin to leave the visitors on 21-2.  This soon became 30-3 and then 30-4 as Carter bowled Coysh and J Thomas with consecutive deliveries. Only Brixham's R Dallow managed to bat with much conviction reaching 37 with several well struck straight drives before he was caught by James Worrell at backward point off the bowling of Pearson with the score on 45-5.

Simpson was stumped by Tim Rutherford in Pearson's (2-20) next over to leave them on a parlous 46-6 after 18 overs.   Brixham skipper Wes Fowler and S Thomas got their heads down and steady accumulated runs in a partnership of 74 for the seventh wicket.

The returning Carter (4-34) finally broke the partnership with the score on 120, bowling Thomas for a well played 37.

Fowler squeezed another 19 runs in the remaining overs and ended up unbeaten on 49.

In reply, Yelverton's openers Pete Garland and veteran Andy Taylor started slowly, but their partnership gradually developed, passing 50 in the 12th over and 100 in the 26th over.

The first wicket partnership was finally broken with the score on 129 when Garland was bowled by Fowler for a well played 74.

After being padded up for 2 hours, Yelverton number three Pat Hobbs departed without scoring with the score on 129, comprehensively bowled by Dallow.

Taylor (43) was then run out with the Bohemians four runs short of victory leaving Gerry Keen (5 n/o) to finish things off.
