A BERE Alston mother who raised £700 for the tsunami appeal earlier this year, has successfully completed the London Marathon despite suffering from a severe calf injury. Dotty Allan, who ran to raise funds for Bere Alston Primary and St. Michael?s Special Care Baby Unit, carried on despite being in severe discomfort. She said: ?My leg did go into spasm at mile two, and remained that way until it became numb at about mile twelve, but it held out for the finish?. The marathon threw up some unwelcome hazards, she said. ?I managed to run every step of the way avoiding pouches of Lucozade ? which I?m sure runners trod on purposely in order to hose my legs ? water bottle missiles, runners with very pointed elbows ? apart from the very tall man who managed a clear shot straight into my shoulder ? and large watch straps which can remove four layers of skin with a single scrape. ?But most importantly, I did not get overtaken by a rhino!? Daisy, 40, finished in 4:35:40 ? 25 minutes over her target. She believes she would have done better had she not set off with a leg injury, but was still satisfied with her performance given that the last runner crossed the line almost two and a half hours later. ?It was a truly great day and next to having my son George it was the most difficult, fantastic thing I have ever done! ?To those who have sponsored me and already paid, thanks a lot, for those of you who have sponsored me and not paid, please pay soon, for those who did not sponsor me but want to, it is not too late!?
