AN appeal has been made to anyone who may have an old bicycle rusting away in the shed or no longer of use to the owner, to donate it to Tavistock Youth Café.
The youth café is requesting donations of whole, scrap bikes to help with a project the youngsters are working on for when the Tour of Britain passes through Tavistock in September.
The scrap bikes will be spray-painted and used to decorate parts of the town while the Tour of Britain celebrations take place.
Some of the bikes will be painted silver and will emulate the BMX group Tavi Riders' logo which will form an art display, and the other bikes will be sprayed with the Tavistock crest colours and used for decoration.
Vicki Lloyd from Tavistock Youth Café said: 'We need 30 scrap bikes and at the moment we've only got ten.
'We're appealing to people for scrap bikes — but they won't get them back. If any young people from ages 11 to 19 are interested in coming to help us spray paint them, they can call us.'
Anyone who has an old bike they would like to donate, or who would like to help spray paint or join the youth café, can do so by contacting Vicki on 01822 612851 or 07800 813667.
