AN OPTICIANS in Okehampton is encouraging donations throughout this week, which is Armed Forces Week, for Blind Veterans UK.

Specsavers Oke-hampton is helping celebrate 100 years of the charity's work helping blind ex-Service men and women, by encouraging donations in the store until June 28. The store is also dedicating £1 per sight test on Saturday, June 27 to the charity.

Store director, Karen Reader, said: 'We're delighted to be supporting Blind Veterans UK this year. The charity is currently supporting more than 4,000 blind veterans and with our help, they hope to reach their target of recruiting 700 new beneficiaries in the coming year.' 

Blind Veterans UK was founded in 1915 and offers support, training and rehabilitation to blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women. The charity's mission is to ensure that all blind veterans have access to the finest quality services to help them discover life beyond sight loss.

Nick Caplin, Chief Executive of Blind Veterans UK, said: 'We are delighted that Specsavers in Okehampton has agreed to dedicate £1 for every sight test during Armed Forces Week to the charity. We hope that the partnership will help us to continue to raise awareness and support for the life changing work of the charity in our centenary year.'
