THE amazing partnerships that exist between man and his dog will be demonstrated by a West Devon team at a charity dog jamboree being held at Moretonhampstead this weekend.

The event is being held on Sunday at Hayne Old Manor, courtesy of Mr and Mrs Constantine and will start at 10.30am.

The programme will include an imaginative range of entertainment with the emphasis being firmly on having fun and family participation.

There will be demonstrations of working sheepdogs, gundogs, Newfoundlands, agility, heelwork to music, flyball and patrol dog, amongst others. Terrier and lurcher racing will provide a sporting touch; there will also be a falconry display.

The team giving the sheep dog demonstration consists of people from Bere Alston, Whitchurch, Lustleigh and Moretonhampstead. A member of the team was fourth in the English National Championships in 2003 and has just won the Longshaw Singles Open Trial, one of the oldest trials in England.

Totnes woman Phillippa Armstrong, who is in a wheelchair, and her dog Zippy will give a demonstration of agility. Phillippa was chosen to represent Great Britain at the first wheelchair agility demonstration/match at Earls Court.

The day will include competitions, companion and family dog show, dog fancy dress, good citizens award (bronze), and a gundog scurry.

A marquee, bar, and refreshments will be available all day.

The entrance fee is £1 per adult (children free). All are welcome. Entries taken on the field.

All profits from the dog jamboree will be donated to the Devon Air Ambulance, The Cinnamon Trust and the Sir Francis Chichester Trust.

Hayne Old Manor is situated on the A382 just south of Moretonhampstead.
