OH! What a surprise, yellow lines for Hatherleigh. This is yet another example of self-seeking and unlistening politicians, foisting onto the people yet more restrictions on our lives. When are we going to stand up for our freedoms? We meekly stand by whilst our personal freedoms and responsibilities are being eroded by yet more and more nannying by the state and its control-freak politicians, too weak to resist trendy minority pressure groups. We are being told what to eat, drink, smoke, etc, how we should take our recreation, and what we are allowed to say, (where is the freedom of speech we say we are so proud of?) and much more besides. Thank goodness the huntsmen are prepared to take a stand. I support you all the way. I for one do not wish to be told what, and what not to do by the state. I consider I?m both mature and intelligent enough to take personal responsibility for my actions and do not wish to be dragged down, and grouped with the lowest common denominator. Instead of tarring us all with the same brush perhaps their time and our money would be better spent on helping those that need it, and not telling middle England how they should run their lives. We don?t want the yellow lines, so perhaps we should get behind our mayor Mrs Herrod-Taylor and suggest that our apparently toothless town council just say NO and stand by that decision, and not be dictated to by faceless county councillors. After all, what have we got a town council for, if not to represent the local community? Do we really want this lovely town to die completely and become just another dormitory, and a sad tribute to our unthinking local politicians? Time to stand up and be counted? T L Brandon-King Oakfield Road Hatherleigh RULES from Europe seem to be the reason for yellow lines and some pay and display parking spaces by the bank to the market gates in Hatherleigh. West Devon Borough Council are hiding behind rules from Europe, saying it?s for health and safety. The pay and display car park is always empty. This will put more cars on the streets, then they will put yellow lines right through the main streets for health and safety. When we get yellow lines in the main streets, people will be able to drive right through the ghost town of Hatherleigh and see what West Devon Borough Council and rules from Europe have done to it.
