POLICE in West Devon are running a special campaign in the run-up to Christmas in a bid to crack down on thefts from cars. The police will put a notice on every car in parking and shopping areas of Tavistock and Okehampton. The note will either congratulate people on having left nothing on display or point out what has been left visible and remind them of the risks. The police offer apologies for any inconvenience if you have a notice placed on your car when you have done nothing wrong ? they have to leave a notice on every car or they run the risk of highlighting those that have property on display. Every year police are astonished at how many people leave a pile of goods on display. Usually it is because they run out of space in the boot. Police ask people to consider this when they plan their shopping trips.
