A WEST Devon DJ has reached new heights in his musical career after playing at one of the world's most famous dance music venues and playing live on the radio.

Electronic music producer and DJ Dan Kelly, from Tavistock, has recently returned from playing a gig at what is considered the spiritual home of dance music — Café Mambo in Ibiza.

Dan's gig was also played live on the radio from the BBC Radio One studios at Café Mambo on Club Culture Live on BFBS Forces radio — a station which broadcasts to places around the world where significant numbers of service personnel are based.

Dan, 23, said: 'This is the biggest achievement in my career so far.

'Café Mambo is where the biggest DJs in the world play their music as the sun sets along Sunset Strip.

'It was such an honour to play my own music at such a legendary venue and have it played out to so many people on BFBS radio.

'It was amazing to step in the footsteps of where Radio One were broadcasting from the weekend before, and to stand on the terrace where so many famous people have stood in the past.

'I was interviewed by the presenter Neil Moore and played some of my own tracks from one of my record labels Electrik Shandy White, including a brand new collaboration with a producer from Bodmin and featuring vocals from the lead singer of a local band called Blue Orchid.

'The track will be released at around Christmas time but it has already gained support from some of the biggest DJs world-wide.'

Dan also played his track 'Devotion' which was made Tune of the Month on one of the top Trance radio shows worldwide — Rush Hour.

The show has 250,000 subscribers on iTunes and is syndicated to more than 120 FM radio stations worldwide from Asia to South America.

Dan said: 'This is a great step forward for me in my career in music and coupled with all my other recent achievements, it stands me in good stead for the future.'

Dan owns his own record label 'Electrik Shandy Recordings' and two sister labels 'Electrik Shandy White' and 'ES Reboot' — all profits from the latter label go to Help for Heroes.

'I have a lot of things planned for the next 12 months, including collaborations with some of the biggest names in the business, gigs around the country and on top of that my record label is approaching its 100th release which will be really special,' he said.
