A SIXTH form pupil at Mount House School in Tavistock is celebrating musical success, after being awarded a distinction at grade 8 for the piano. Yume will be one of more than 100 Mount House musicians who will be competing in the Saltash Festival, which begins tomorrow (Friday). They will take part in over 60 performances over the eight days of the festival. The musical categories range from vocal solos for children as young as five, through orchestra and choir performances to instrumental ensembles and solos. Yume Fujita will this year be competing against older children in three piano categories: the Open Chopin Class, the Recital Class for 13 to 15 year- olds and the Advanced Class for Grade 8 and above. In addition she will compete in the Church Organ category for children up to 17 years of age, and will play the xylophone in the Percussion Class. The Saltash Festival of Music, Speech and Drama is an annual event held at the Saltash Wesley Methodist Church.
