A PUBLIC display of the early work towards an Okehampton Design Statement proved very successful with more than 1,000 people counted visiting the market hall foyer during the week-long exhibition.

The display was staged by the Okehampton Design Statement Group between June 19 and 25 to get feedback from town residents on the project?s initial ideas.

Okehampton chartered architect Nils Westman, who is leading the initiative, said around 100 questionnaires filled out by local people had already been received with more still expected. A special prize draw of a hamper supplied by Waitrose will be awarded for the best questionnaire response.

Mr Westman said statistical analysis of the responses to the questionnaire was still being carried out but he one could ?tentatively say? that transport and traffic management and facilities for teenagers and young people were some of the key issues identified.

If you would like to share your views on the future development of Okehampton, there is still a chance to see the display at the Ockment Centre and then at the library.
