Carlsberg South Western League St Austell 2 Tavistock 1 THE Lambs fight to get out of the re-election position with this narrow defeat at Poltair when they went down to a late winner in the 85th minute. They were without captain Alan Yendall (holiday) and Sean Cann (suspension) but welcomed back Will Westlake and John Gosling from suspension and also included youngsters Dominic Beech and Matt Allen to sit on the bench. The Lambs faced a stiff breeze in the first half that saw very little of goalmouth action apart from Gosling and James Steer having shots on target but straight at the keeper. They also survived appeals for hand ball by Lee Fox in the area and Andy Baker firing over for the home side. The best move of the half came from the Lambs just prior to the interval with Steer, Matt Martin and Westlake combining to allow Paul Adcock to turn and shoot over. A Gosling mistake minutes into the second half almost cost them a goal but he redeemed himself to get in a tackle to save the situation and Andy Meeds had to be alert as a cross shot came flying in from out wide by Gary Whieldon. The Lillywhites took the lead on 52 minutes when a cross from Dan Lean was not dealt with and the ball came to Phil Smith on the edge of the corner of the area for him to turn inside and curl his shot wide of Meeds into the far corner. Gosling went close on the hour and a sustained five minutes of pressure around the 65 to 70 minute mark finally bore fruit. The Lambs forced a series of corners and free kicks all to no avail but a through ball found Westlake and Adcock chasing it and Adcock went tumbling in the area. Up stepped James Cole to make no mistake from the spot to level the scores. It looked that the Lambs had done enough to gain a point but Fox fouled just on the edge of the area and from the free kick Lean drilled the ball low past the wall and Meeds into the bottom corner. Another disappointing day for the Lambs as time and games are running out if they are to get out of the bottom two.
