DJM U16s Howe League
Devon Cup round two
West Exe U16s 4
Tavistock Town U16s 6
TAVISTOCK moved in to next round of the county cup with a hard fought victory against an uncompromising Exeter side.
The first half an hour was an evenly contested affair but the visitors found themselves two goals down with ten minutes to the break after the more direct football from the home side had paid dividends. However, Tavistock grabbed a lifeline when the influential Matt White who had been moved into midfield to provide some much needed guile, popped up to score a well taken goal just on half time.
The second half found the visitors on the ascendancy playing with a strong breeze in their favour, but went further behind when unable to deal with a long ball. This spurred Tavistock on and a corner from Pete Page picked out the head of Rob Hill who scored from four yards.
Matt White provided a dangerous cross that could only be helped into the net by a defender for the equalizer on the hour.
Although playing more fluent football, Tavistock found themselves behind again after some sloppy defending allowed the home side to score.
However, a second from Rob Hill led to extra time where a well taken goal from the hard working Matt McClung gave the visitors a scent of a well earned victory.
Peter Page was causing endless problems for the home defenders with his accurate corner kicks and it was no surprise when after some pressure, James Young hit in a first time effort from a quick throw by Matt White.
The 4-6 score line was just reward for the hard work and considerable skill shown. Bradley Crack had a fine game at left back, an example followed by the whole team.
