THE secret to a happy marriage is well known by Cyril and Ruth Squire who recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Mr and Mrs Squire were surrounded by friends and family as they celebrated 60 years of marriage at the Bedford Hotel in Tavistock.
The couple were married at the Providence Methodist Chapel near Brentor in 1950.
Both now 85, Mr and Mrs Squire live at Hurdwick Farm just outside Tavistock, where the charity Operation Sunshine is based.
They have both worked on the farm for most of their married lives and Mr Squire is still actively involved in the workings of the farm.
The couple have three children — Caroline, Dorothy and Pete who are all now in their fifties, and three grandchildren — Nick, Justine and Jez.
In celebration of their anniversary, Mr and Mrs Squire invited 46 friends and relatives to join them for a meal, which involved a number of speeches and entertainment by a magician. The guests gave donations to Operation Sunshine as gifts for the couple.
