Tavistock thirds v

Yelverton thirds

A DOMINANT batting display from Tavistock resulted in a comfortable win over Yelverton on Saturday.

Tavistock batted first and despite the early loss Anderson a solid partnership of 130 plus, developed between Dhanjal and Chappell.

By the time Dhanjal (79) and Chappell (55) had fallen to the persistence of O'Hanlon and young Matt Adams, Tavistock were looking at piling on quick runs in the last 10 overs. The middle order did not disappoint with Monger (10), Bellamy (17), Skinner (11no) and Goldstone. Colt Danny Goldstone in the space of a couple of overs hit three sixes and two fours in his superb 30 not out and leaving a total of 232 for Yelverton to chase.

Credit to Yelverton's bowlers who kept on going, and in particular young Matt Adams who picked up two wickets and Sachin Murali who bowled a tight spell.

Wright led the Yelverton chase but the Tavistock attack of Bellamy and Goldstone stuck to their task and kept the pressure on with some tight bowling. The bowlers picked up a wicket each but Wright continued to push the score along although his batting partners were now falling at regular intervals. First change bowlers Crowl with a wicket and Folley with two continued to make 'inroads' into the Yelverton order.

Brian Spear (22) supported for a while as did Ben Spear (31) until he was run out by some sharp Bellamy fielding. The return of Bellamy to the attack paid dividends for Tavistock with the removal of Wright just short of his 50. Yelverton eventually fell short by 70 runs, not before however Anderson and Hutchins had managed to take a wicket a piece to take Tavistock's haul to nine.

This was a good all round batting and fielding display from Tavistock with two nice catches from new signing Anderson and one for Dhanjal.
