Devon League D
Ashburton v Whitchurch Wayfarers
ON a sweltering day in South Devon Whitchurch were beaten by young Devon star Durman. Opening the bowling he took three of the first four wickets to fall with a fast accurate spell. Finishing on 5-30 his impact on the game was obvious. Coming back from 39-4 was always going to be difficult.
Aaron Churchill (35) and Simon Reeves (43) followed by Josh Meadows (not out 54) showed the way as Whitchurch recovered to post 166 all out. This total was unlikely to be enough and with Durman opening the batting and scoring a quick fire 49 Whitchurch were soon on the back foot. First change bowler Hammy got rid of Durman but by then the damage was done. The end was quite swift as Berry, Harvey and Causey all scored in the 30s to take Ashburton home for a comfortable win. Phil Mansfield provided some late amusement by getting a couple of wickets with some interesting bowling.
One good sign was that the extras were much lower. Greater discipline in the field to back up the batsmen and the results will turn.
