THE Devon Countryside Access Forum is currently recruiting new members. The forum is a statutory body concerned with improving recreational access to the countryside. Supported by Devon County Council, it has 15 volunteer members who meet four or five times a year to consider a wide range of policy issues aimed at making the countryside more accessible and enjoyable. At a national and Devon level, forum members have a statutory role in advising on and promoting access improvements. With health and fitness high on the agenda, a major focus is encouraging more people to get out and about and use opportunities on their doorsteps.  Over the past year the forum has replied to various consultations, debated proposals for coastal access, and advised on provision for those with disabilities. It has also welcomed speakers, including Stephen Jenkinson, from the Kennel Club, on dogs in the countryside, and Adrian Roper, from Sustrans. Tim Felton, vice-chairman of the Devon Countryside Access Forum, said: 'For anyone interested in influencing the development of access to the countryside and coast in Devon, membership of the Devon Countryside Access Forum (DCAF) takes you to the heart of the debate and helps to influence local government and organisations responsible for the delivery of this vital public amenity. 'Since its inception in 2002 the DCAF has striven to deliver measurable progress rather than just act as a talking shop. My experience is that we have gone a long way to achieving that aim.' If you are interested in becoming one of the forum's 15 members, the closing date is Friday, February 29.
