THE final week of Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club?s season saw them play four games, the first of which was a five-rink home match against the prestigious Devon Ladies? representative team. The match ended as a 95-90 victory for the visiting ladies after they won three of the rinks. Tavistock skip Ernie Piper and his crew of John Timmins, Wallace Northey and Frank Welch won 20-16 while skip Mike Allen led his squad of Charlie Cummings, Ralph Cook and Ray Meneer to a 25-11 victory. Skip Barry Chappell and his team of Norman Paramor, Gordon Northey and Walter Meek won 21-15. Losing skips were Malcolm Bloomer(16-22), Vic Stacey(8-31). A Civil Service mixed team were Wednesday?s visitors for a six-rink mixed match which ended as a 121-107 victory for the Tavistock squads. Skip Vic Stacey and his team of Marlene Paramor and Charlie Cummings won 24-12 while skip Norman Paramor led his crew of Wallace Northey and Jenny Vogelaar to a 19-9 victory. Skip Harvey Leach and his team of Albert Townsend and Catriona Meek had a runaway 32-10 victory and skip Barry Chappell led his team to a 21-11 victory. Losing skips were David Perry(12-27), Mike Allen(13-18). Thursday saw a visit by a six-rink triples team from Liskeard for a match which ended with each team winning three rinks and the Tavistock squad losing the match 89-115. Tavistock winning skips were Hazel Lovell,who led her crew of Brian Ellicott and Walter Meek to a one shot 18-17 victory, while Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Harvey Leach and Joan Northey won 21-18. Vic Stacey and his crew of Albert Townsend and Jenny Vogelaar won 14-12. Losing Skips were Ernie Piper(6-29) and George Blackburn(16-19). Saturday saw the men?s captains team and the ladies? captains select team facing each other for their traditional end of season match. The men?s captains team won the game by a narrow margin with the ladies promising revenge at the start of next year?s season.
