AS part of Carers Week, Devon Carers has organised a carers information market in Tavistock next week.

Carers visiting the information market will be able to meet with representatives from a range of local organisations, talk to staff from Devon Carers, gather information about the support available and meet and talk to other carers.

The Tavistock information market will take place on Friday, June 10 from 10am to 3pm in the Parish Rooms.

There are 6.5-million carers in the UK. Across Devon 19,000 are known to Devon Carers, of whom approximately 3,000 are young carers under the age of 18.

Lesley Willmott, from Devon Carers, said: ‘As part of the Peer Support Project we have worked hard to encourage carers to form friendships with other carers so that they do not feel they are the only one in a caring role. The information market will give carers an opportunity to meet with local organisations. It is hoped that this element of the marketplace will enable carers to understand they don’t have to struggle on alone with the challenges of caring. There is help out there and someone to talk to.’

Carers Week is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of caring, taking place from June 6 to 12. This year Carers Week is focusing on building carer friendly communities — communities which support carers to look after their family or friends well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own.
