THREE Tavistock teenagers will this week be doing their bit for entente cordiale as they take part in La Fete de la Musique in Burgundy tomorrow (Friday). Oli Larcombe-Moore, 14, Sam Brockington and Mat Lawrie, both 15, and students at Tavistock College, perform as a rock trio called Butterflies & Hurricanes. Their musical talents have so impressed organisers of the La Rochepot musical festival they have been invited to make their international debut when the event takes place this weekend. Harry Coen, an ex-pat who lives in La Rochepot and organised the village?s inaugural festival last year, is good friends with Oli?s parents. Harry said: ?We have our own private garden party every year and since we knew Oli played guitar, he was invited to jam with the musicians from Paris and round about. ?The long and short of it is he impressed the old hands and was invited to join us next time.? Harry said festival co-organiser David Thornton visited Tavistock earlier this year and heard Butterflies & Hurricanes playing and extended Oli?s invitation to the entire band. ?The organising committee was delighted to confirm the invitation, both to encourage young local talent, including our own youngsters, and because it adds a welcome international element,? said Harry. ?La Rochepot has a long tradition of welcoming visitors ? and the boys will be given a special welcome by M. Michel Billard, the mayor.? Harry said last year?s festival was a tremendous hit, including rock, folk, jazz, New Orleans blues and traditional French music. ?It?s a truly authentic village festival, aimed more at giving the locals a good time than attracting tourists, and people were still dancing in the streets at 3am,? said Harry. ?This year, with the aid of Butterflies & Hurricanes, we expect to make even more impact!?
