THE developer behind a scheme to provide sheltered housing for the elderly in Chagford, say local people stand to lose out following planning application refusal. Dennis Wilkinson Ltd?s outline planning application for the site at Bretteville Field, Chagford, was refused by Dartmoor National Park Authority last month. The proposals would have provided sheltered housing for the local elderly, a new nursing home and affordable homes for local people and families. In addition, an access and car park spur, together with highway widening of Bretteville Close were proposed. Dennis Wilkinson, representative and former Chagford resident Shirley Hopkin, said: ?Our proposals were specifically designed to address the local and immediate needs of the local community. ?We are very disappointed for the people of Chagford that our plans were not approved, particularly in view of the strong support expressed by local residents who attended our public exhibition earlier this year. ?Despite the decision, we remain convinced that our proposals offer many positive benefits for the local and wider community and we are currently reviewing the situation with a view to holding further discussions with the local authority. We will continue to keep local people informed with our future plans.? Though the company is based in East Yorkshire, Mr Wilkinson still has strong local and family ties and previously lived for many years within the Chagford area. Dennis Wilkinson Ltd previously undertook a housing development project at Bretteville Close in Chagford.
