DJM Cambridge U18 league Tavistock Thistles 2 Tamarside 4 With the only game being played in the U18 leagues last Sunday Thistles entertained a strong Tamarside team who had reached the semi finals of the U18 Devon cup. Both teams started well but without managing to create any clear cut openings. Thistles striker Jon Scarry was a bit isolated up front but as time went on Thistles managed to get forward quicker. In the 20th minute Scarry played through Dave Gibbings, who appeared to be pulled down by a defender in the box but the referee dismissed any Thistles claims for a penalty. As Thistles appealed Tamarside broke out and eventually forced a corner from which they scrambled the ball into the net to take the lead. That lead was doubled when five minutes later a rather weak low cross from the right was deflected past keeper Saul Scarry by the unfortunate Mike Brown. Thistles dug in and did not give up and went close when James Worrell thundered a shot from 35 yards onto the bar. After the break Thistles continued to try and catch their opponents on the break and eventually got their reward when leading scorer Jon Scarry slotted home a through ball from Mike Chatfield  to reduce the deficit. Thistles defended deep and counter attacking when possible, but in another five minute spell midway through the half Thistles conceded two soft goals. But once again Thistles played with some belief and were again rewarded with a goal from a corner headed in by Mike Blagdon. Goalkeeper Saul Scarry fully deserved his man of the match award but the whole team played well.
