THE Wren Trust is beating out a SOS ? for more drums.
The Okehampton-based music charity is short of such items and desperate for any unwanted ones to be donated to a good cause.
?We do a lot of work with children and music. But we have a problem at the moment in that the drums we have are getting older and the groups are getting bigger,? said Wren community development worker Dave Goodwin.
Any type of drum would be gratefully accepted so long as it is ?vaguely in reasonable nick?.
?Drum kits are handy because they can be stripped down to their constituent parts for processional drumming because they are nice and loud.
?We do a lot of work getting people out in the street and making a lot of noise!? said Dave.
He said when Wren goes to a school or youth club for the first time drums can be a great way of gaining attention.
?It is a nice and easy non threatening way to get people to have their first go at hands-on music.?
Dave said even people who profess not to have a sense of rhythm can enjoy the delights of drumming.
?Everything, whether it is a person or object, vibrates. It has a natural frequency. Drums can give you the beat of life.?
If anyone has an old drum or drum kit they would like to donate contact the Wren Trust on (01837) 53754.
