LOCAL artists are being invited to put paint to plyboard to take part in a competition to design three new murals in Callington.
Callington Town Council is holding an art competition to create three murals to be installed on the wall above Lloyds Pharmacy in New Road.
A Callington theme is preferred but not vital.
The initial creations will be completed on an A4 sheet of paper with the winning entries to be created by the winning artists on three marine plywood boards 1701.8mm by 1219.2mm by 12mm.
The mural boards will stay up for one year so they must be made weather-proof. Each winning artist will be given £60 to pay for materials.
The competition will be run annually.
Entries for this year’s competition should be submitted by April 2.
Entries will be judged by a panel chaired by Callington portreeve Sue Tolman. The winning murals must be completed and ready to erect on the wall by May 15 in time for Mayfest on May 16.
Callington town clerk Helen Dowdall said: ‘This is a really fantastic opportunity for anyone of any age and any ability to put their mark on the town.
‘The competition is open to anyone who has a flair and passion for the town.
‘If we all pull together we can make Callington a bright and vibrant place to visit and make it a destination town that people will want to walk around and discover what we have.’
Anyone who would like to enter the competition should submit their A4 designs with names and contact details on the back to Callington Town Council, Town Hall, New Road, Callington, PL17 7BD, addressed to Councillor Mike Tagg.
