A HOTSHOT, eight woods scoring, on the last end of the rink Yelverton Bowling Club skipped by John Sloane, not only secured victory for that rink but meant Yelverton men?s team gained victory over Tothill 76 - 71 in their final league match of the season. During August the men had already beaten Peverell 99 ? 58 and Devonport Park 79 ? 69. The successful conclusion to the season means that the men, ably captained by Ron Collier, were second in the Evening League division three and consequently won promotion to division two. This success follows promotion to league three last year and is testimony to Yelverton Bowling Club?s resurgence as a major force in men?s bowls. The club?s ladies? league team is also strongly placed to win promotion, currently placed third with three matches remaining having beaten Plymouth Hoe 40 -39 and Plympton Hares, the present league leaders, 54 - 29. The mixed team also enjoyed major successes during August beating Holsworthy 137-79, Sir Francis Drake 84-77, Tavistock 104-91 and Lee Moor 135-69. These victories are particularly pleasing for club captain, Joyce Neno, enjoying her third season in charge. The club held its annual ?Gentleman versus Ladies? match with almost 50 members participating ? the ladies were narrowly defeated 107 - 98.
