A DENTIST who faces being struck off after trying to work on a woman's teeth in a London McDonald's had already been sacked from a job in Tavistock, a court this week heard.

Anca Claudia Macavei set up her temporary surgery to fit a bridge in a fast-food restaurant in Cannon Street, in the City of London, in 2012.

And when the woman refused to be treated surrounded by burgers and nuggets, Miss Macavei tried to do the work in a hallway.

Last year, a General Dental Council (GDC) committee said her fitness to practise was 'impaired' by misconduct.

It said she should be struck off, but the final decision will go to High Court judge, Mrs Justice Patterson, after she appealed.

Court documents reveal that concerns had already been raised about Miss Macavei's work when she was at a practice in Tavistock in 2011.

The Romanian had worked at ADP Dental Company for only 15 days when her contract was terminated.

The decision was 'in the interest of public safety', GDC papers say, although the nature of the issues are not revealed.

Miss Macavei was before the High Court on Monday to appeal against the decision that she should be struck off the register.

Challenging the decision to strike her off, Miss Macavei said a suspension or conditions on her registration would have sufficed.

'It was too hard to me and I think it was disproportionate. It was a very tough decision,' she told the judge.

James Townsend, for the GDC, is contesting Miss Macavei's application.

He said: 'Given Miss Macavei's catalogue of failings, lack of insight and failure to engage over more than two years with an attempt to help her, then to engage in a half-hearted way, the GDC submits that it cannot possibly be said that the decision of the professional conduct committee was wrong.'

The GDC made its decision to strike Miss Macavei off last July and she has been suspended since then, pending her appeal to the High Court.

Mrs Justice Patterson reserved judgment and will decide Miss Macavei's future at a later date.
