A MOVE to give Tavistock council staff extra training to deal with people who flout dog fouling by-laws in the Meadows is on hold, until a suitable course can be found.

Members of the town council's properties committee during its recent meeting heard that the KeepBritainTidy organisation currently has no courses scheduled to qualify staff for dog fouling notice enforcement.

Town clerk Roger Howard said: 'Probably as the legislation regarding this has been in force for three years, most of the people who wanted to do it, did it at the beginning of that time, so now we are on our own.

'The only suggestion is that we host a local course for a minimum of eight persons and at a cost of £2,000.'

Col Howard told the committee that further discussions regarding training were taking place with West Devon Borough Council environmental officers.
