SATURDAY'S fourball competition at Okehampton Golf Club was changed from a medal to a Stableford due to the wet ground and the need of four temporary greens. Entry was good and scoring high for the conditions. Winning division one were Del Owen and Paul Skidmore with 45 points, second Kevin Cornwall and Malcolm Hill on 44, third Andrew Shapland and John Whitehouse with 43 on the back nine from Nick Redman and Steve Sandiford, also on 43. Division two were won by John Donovan and Steve Cook on 44 points, second were Keith Harkness and Phil Hawking 43, back nine, third Dave Grimes and Paul Macdonald also 43 and fourth Alan Vernon and Mike Booth on 42. The ladies played a qualifying Stableford on Wednesday. Winning the silver division, and bringing her handicap down to 17 was Pam Jarman with 37 points. In second place was Penny Deakin on 32 and third was Chris Stevens with 31 on countback from Dawn Phillott. The bronze division was won by Ann Brokenbrow with 32, second Mary Keir 30 and third was Doris Jewell on 27. Sunday saw a mixed greensomes Stableford competition arranged by vice-captain Alan Deakin. This turned out to be an enjoyable day with only a few showers to contend with. The emphatic winners were Maureen Willcocks and Sam Hurdwell with a wonderful round of 41 points and two twos. In second place were Lin and Nick Atkinson 36 and third were Shirley and Peter Stunnell on 34.
