Tamar A Division Ordulph v Cornwood CLEARLY, winning the toss does not suit the Ordulph. With what was a weakened side due to other sporting and family commitments Ordulph took on Cornwood who were bolstered by the presence of first team opening bat Chris Beaumont. He made his intentions clear, striking his first two deliveries from Dave Langton for ten runs. With steady bowling from the other end from Neil Folley, a degree of control was exerted on the Cornwood run rate. But the Ordulph bowling and fielding was never strong enough to halt very competent batting display from Cornwood with contributions from Chris Beaumont (30), Alex Beaumont (36), Paul Skeemer (49), and Matthew Kidd (25no) resulting in a significant total of 215- 7. Special mention must be made of Ordulph's Gary Hutchins who worked tirelessly in the outfield with great skill in the field saving many runs. Ordulph 'new boy' Jack Healey starred in the bowling department taking three wickets. Ordulph's batting reply was spirited and always carried the threat that they might achieve an improbable victory. Leading from the front was a fine innings from Alan Melhuish (42), with fine contributions from Dave Langton (21), Nathan Whitfield (27) and 'stand in' Johnny Sandison (22). For Cornwood pick of the bowling was Freddie de Mendonca (3-43) and Mick Organ (4-20). However, with only five regular first team players available, the innings inevitably petered out to a total of 155 in 27 overs providing a comfortable win for a strong Cornwood side. But Ordulph can be proud of the fight they put up in achieving some points from a game that was almost cancelled due to lack of players.
