YELVERTON seconds unbeaten start to the season was ended at Westward Ho! on Saturday as they went down to hosts Bideford by 8 wickets.
Yelverton skipper Jason Degg had no hesitation in electing to bat and he and fellow opener Andy Taylor but on 38 for the first wicket before Taylor offered a simple caught and bowled opportunity to opposing skipper John Weeks.
New batsman, teenager Jez Croymosan gave Degg good support in a second wicket stand of 59 before he was bowled by the accurate Dave Smale (2-40 off 13). Jerry Keen joined Degg and the pair added another 58 before Keen (24) edged a catch behind off Smale with the score on 155. Vice-captain Chris Pearson helped Degg take the score along to 193 and in doing so Degg scored his 2nd century of the season, but then Pearson (20) & Degg (100) departed off consecutive balls to the bowling of Weeks (4-55 off 13).
Will Johnson was caught behind for 2 . Jerry Warland (22 no) and Kevin Treweeks (6 no) took the final total up to 225-6 off the allotted 46 overs.
In reply Bideford lost Bradbeer to Heath with a brute of a delivery with the total on 24 but remaining opener Stevens latched onto anything short, and sent it to the boundary.
Stevens and new batsman Webb rattled the score along putting on the 50 partnership in good time and the second wicket partnership passed 100 and was finally broken with the score on 189 when Degg bowled Stevens off his pads for 63 before Bideford hit 231-2 off 40.3 overs.
Yelverton drop down to fourth in the league.
This weekend, Yelverton entertain Braunton at Langton Park (2pm).
